Perk shows you how much CO₂e your business travel produces, so you always have visibility into your footprint. CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalent) is the standard unit for measuring the combined climate impact of the greenhouse gases your travel produces. 

Green Trip is an opt-in add-on for addressing the emissions you can’t avoid — Perk contributes to verified climate projects on your behalf. Use this article to view your emissions data, understand how Green Trip works, and turn it on for your company.

View your sustainability dashboard

The sustainability dashboard shows you how much CO₂e your business travel produces. It’s available to every Perk customer.

To view the dashboard, go to Analyze > Travel reporting, then under Sustainability, select See full report.

How Green Trip works

Green Trip helps you address the travel emissions your company can’t avoid, on top of any steps you’re already taking to reduce them.

How we work out your trip’s emissions

For every trip your travelers book, Perk works out an estimated CO₂e figure using trusted industry data. We calculate emissions separately for each type of travel, since each one produces emissions differently:

• Flights: we look at the specific aircraft, route, and cabin class where that data is available, rather than just the distance between two airports. Flying also has a warming effect beyond the fuel it burns, so we add a conservative adjustment to reflect that.
• Hotels: we estimate emissions per night based on the hotel’s location and star rating, using recognized hotel-industry benchmarking data.
• Car rentals: we estimate emissions from the type of vehicle rented and an average distance for the rental period, since exact mileage isn’t usually available to us.
• Trains: we estimate emissions from the distance travelled and, where we have it, data specific to the rail operator; otherwise we use a national or regional average.

Where we can, we use details specific to that trip instead of a flat average applied to every booking. This keeps each estimate as close to reality as the available data allows.

Note: Emissions figures are estimates, not direct measurements. Their accuracy depends on the booking and travel data available for each trip — for example, a rental car’s actual mileage or a train’s specific operator may not always be known. Perk reviews and improves how it calculates emissions as better data and industry standards become available, and keeps a record of what’s changed and when.

Once Green Trip is turned on:

• Contributions from all Green Trip customers are pooled and processed quarterly.
• Perk invests the pooled contributions in projects certified by Verra or Gold Standard.

To turn on Green Trip for your company:

1. Go to Settings > Account > Plans.
2. Select Get Green Trip.
