Set up and manage passkeys

Passkeys let you sign in to Perk using your device's built-in security—for example Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key—instead of entering a passcode. Use this article to add a passkey, sign in with one, name and manage multiple passkeys across your devices, and remove passkeys you no longer need.

Understanding how passkeys work in Perk

Passkeys in Perk are stored on the device or browser where you create them, and they work with that device's authenticator—for example your phone's biometrics or your laptop's password manager. Because passkeys are tied to each device, a passkey you add on your work laptop won't automatically exist on your phone. You add a passkey on each device or browser where you want to use one. Some older devices don't support passkeys, so you can't create one in Perk while using an unsupported device.

On mobile, passkeys are saved to your device's password manager—Google Password Manager on Android, iCloud Keychain on iOS, or another third-party password manager such as 1Password. Passkeys saved this way may sync across devices that share the same account, so a passkey you set up on your phone could be available on other devices signed in to the same Google or Apple account. However, you may or may not be able to use that passkeys in another device depending on the password manager you use.

If your organization requires single sign-on (SSO) to sign in to Perk, passkey sign-in from the standard sign-in screen doesn't apply. Perk sends you to your company's SSO sign-in instead—use that flow to access your account.

Note: If your organization requires SSO to sign in, you can't use a passkey on the sign-in screen. Sign in with your company's SSO instead.

Setting up a passkey

On the Perk web app

Setting up a passkey in Perk uses your profile security settings, where your account lists existing passkeys and the Add passkey action.

  1. Sign in to Perk.
  2. Open your profile and go to Personal > Security, and click Change.
  3. Find the passkeys section.

  4. Enter a short label you'll recognize later—for example "Work laptop – Chrome" or "iPhone 15"—and then click Add passkey. If you don't enter a label, Perk names the passkey using your device name.
  5. When your browser or device asks you to verify, complete the step—for example approve Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or use your security key.

Tip: Add a passkey on every device you use for Perk and give each one a descriptive name. If you replace a device or reinstall your browser, you may need to add a new passkey and remove old entries you no longer trust.

On the Perk app

After signing in to the Perk app, you're prompted to set up a passkey. The passkey is saved to Google Password Manager on Android, iCloud Keychain on iOS, or another password manager if you use one.

  1. After signing in, tap Create a passkey when prompted.
  2. Follow your device's instructions to verify your identity—for example, using your fingerprint, face, or screen lock.

If you tap Not now, you can set up a passkey later from your profile security settings in the Perk web app.

Tip: Add a passkey on every device you use for Perk and give each one a descriptive name. If you replace a device or reinstall your browser, you may need to add a new passkey and remove old entries you no longer trust.

Signing in with a passkey

On the Perk web app

Passkey sign-in in Perk is available on the Perk sign-in page using the browser's autocomplete suggestion in the email field when passkeys are set up for your account and device.

  1. Go to the Perk sign-in page.
  2. Select the Email field.
  3. When your browser or device shows a saved passkey suggestion, choose it.

  4. Complete verification when prompted—for example Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, or your security key.
  5. Wait for Perk to finish sign-in and open your account.

Even if you have passkeys set up, you can still choose to sign in using an email one-time passcode (OTP). Passkeys are optional—you can keep using email OTP whenever you prefer.

On the Perk app

  1. Open the Perk app and tap Sign in with email.
  2. Tap the Email field.
  3. Choose your passkey from the prompt your device shows.
  4. Verify your identity when prompted—for example with Face ID, fingerprint, or PIN.

Naming and managing multiple passkeys

You can rename and remove passkeys from your profile security settings in the Perk web app. Passkeys set up on the Perk mobile app also appear in this list.

Passkey names in Perk help you pick the right entry when you review your devices and make it easier to remove the right passkey later. Use names that describe the device and browser—for example "Work laptop – Chrome" or "iPhone 15"—rather than private details you wouldn't want someone else to see on a shared screen. You can set or change a label when you add a passkey, or from the passkey list.

Multiple passkeys on your Perk account let you use different devices without sharing one passkey between them. Add a passkey on each device or browser you use regularly—for example one on your phone and one on your work computer. If you stop using a device, remove its passkey so your account only lists options you still control.

Renaming a passkey

Renaming a passkey in Perk updates its label so you can keep your passkeys organized and easy to recognize. The device or browser still signs you in the same way. You can only rename passkeys in the web app; by default, passkeys created on the mobile app use your mobile operating system as a name.

  1. Sign in to Perk.
  2. Open your profile and go to Personal > Security, then open the passkeys list.
  3. Find the passkey you want to rename, click the 3-dot menu, and choose Rename.

  4. Type your preferred name.
  5. Click Save name.

Removing a passkey

Removing a passkey in Perk stops that device or browser from using it to sign in. You can only remove passkeys from the web app.

  1. Sign in to Perk.
  2. Open your profile and go to Personal > Security, then open the passkeys list.
  3. Find the passkey you no longer need, click the 3-dot menu, and choose Delete.

  4. Click Delete passkey.

After you remove a passkey, that device or browser can't use it to sign in anymore. If you removed the last passkey you use on a device, add a new passkey there before you rely on passkey sign-in again, or use your email one-time passcode (OTP) or SSO as needed.

Caution: After you remove a passkey in Perk, your browser or password manager might still show that passkey as an autofill or sign-in option for a while. If you try to use it, the sign-in attempt will fail with an error because the passkey was revoked in Perk.

Troubleshooting passkey sign-in

Passkey sign-in in Perk can fail to appear or fail to finish verification for a few common reasons. Use the sections below to sign in and decide what to do next.

You don't see a passkey suggestion

You might not have created a passkey on this device or browser yet, your browser might not support passkeys, or passkey autocomplete might not be available in your current setup. Sign in with your email and a one-time passcode (OTP) instead, or use the sign-in method your admin asked you to use.

The passkey prompt is canceled or verification fails

Close any extra windows, then select the email field again and choose your passkey when prompted. If it still fails, sign in with your email and a one-time passcode (OTP) and contact your admin if your organization restricts how you can sign in.

Caution: Canceling the passkey prompt or closing the browser during verification stops sign-in. You need to trigger passkey autocomplete again from the email field or sign in with your email and a one-time passcode (OTP).

You dismissed the passkey prompt in the Perk app

If you tapped Not now when prompted to set up a passkey after signing in to the Perk app, the prompt won't appear again automatically. To set up a passkey, sign in to the Perk web app and go to your profile, Personal > Security > Edit and then Add passkey.
