Booking personal travel on Perk

Personal travel on Perk lets a traveler book personal travel inside the same Perk account they use for work, paid on their own card, kept fully separate from the company. A traveler can also bring family and friends along on personal travel. This article explains what personal travel on Perk is and how a traveler books and pays. Two related articles go deeper: to learn how to bring family and friends, see Add family and friends to personal travel, and to learn how the company is kept out of personal data, see How personal travel stays private.

In short: a traveler switches to Personal on the homepage, books flights, stays, trains, or cars as personal travel, adds family and friends when they want, and pays on their own card. Personal travel never enters the company's policy, approvals, reporting, ERP, or the spend product.

Note: Personal travel is currently in beta phase and is available to a select group of customers.

What personal travel on Perk is

When a traveler books personal travel, it creates a separate trip-ID alongside their business trips. It is neither a separate account nor a separate login. The traveler uses their normal work email and the Perk account they already have, so there is nothing new to set up.

Personal travel stays separate from work travel in every way that matters. It has its own checkout; the traveler pays on their own card, and it does not run through the company's travel controls or spend product. The traveler still sees business and personal travel in one place, so they keep a single view without their personal travel entering company data.

Booking personal travel

Tip: To see the full booking flow before you start, take the interactive tour of booking personal travel.

A traveler starts booking personal travel from the Perk home page:

  1. Go to Home and use the Business / Personal switch above the heading and search form to switch to Personal.
  2. Pick the service to book and search. During the flow, a "personal" tag is shown, so the traveler knows this is a personal search.
  3. Policies do not apply. Also, no approval is needed when booking personal travel.
  4. Add flights, stays, trains, or cars like they are used to when using the Perk platform. The Concierge service is only available for business travel.
  5. Add family and friends (2 and older) if they want to travel together. To learn more, see Add family and friends to personal travel.
  6. Premium fees, Flexi Travel fees, and Green Trip fees don't apply, and insurance can't be added to personal travel.
  7. Go to checkout to pay.

Personal search does not show inventory with corporate rates. Those rates are exclusive to business travel bookings. Aside from that, the traveler can book the same inventory as they can when booking business travel.

Paying for personal travel

A traveler pays for personal travel on their own personal card. Corporate payment methods and business cards can't be selected. Personal travel has its own checkout, separate from any business booking.

  1. Add everything to be booked as personal travel.
  2. At checkout, select a personal payment method. If no personal card is saved, the traveler adds one through the existing add-card form. The card is added as a personal card, only available for booking personal travel.
  3. Pay with the personal card to confirm the booking.

The personal payment step marks the card as personal, the price breakdown states the travel is paid personally rather than by the company, and checkout shows a reminder that this is personal travel. Company payment methods are not selectable for personal travel, and a personal card is not selectable to book business travel.

The traveler receives a booking confirmation and receipt in their email, like they are used to when booking business travel.

Caution: If an employee books personal travel and subsequently leaves the company, their access is not removed until that travel has taken place. Once the travel is past, the employee can be offboarded.

How personal travel stays separate from the company

Personal travel runs outside the company's travel controls: no travel policy or Policy AI, no approvals, and no cost objects or custom fields. It also stays out of company data. Personal travel does not appear in customer reporting, Spend, the ERP connector, or invoice collection, and it does not count toward subscription usage.

Business add-ons are excluded too: business vouchers, FlexiTravel, Green Trip, Premium, insurance, and Concierge do not apply to personal travel. The traveler's personal card is hidden from the company admin. For the full picture of how we keep personal travel private, see How personal travel stays private.
