Add a third-party US card to Perk

On Perk, you can bring your own third-party cards. A third-party card is a corporate or business card you already have with your bank or card issuer that you connect to Perk instead of switching to a Perk Card. Use this article to add your own card in Perk and start tracking its transactions for your expenses.

What is a third-party card?

A third-party card in Perk is a card issued by your bank or card provider that you link to your Perk account rather than using a Perk Card issued to you. Once you add your card, its transactions flow into Perk so you can match them to expenses.

Caution: This setup is for US-issued cards only. If your card was issued in the EU or the UK, this setup doesn't apply to you.

There are two ways to add a third-party US-based card to Perk:

  • Bulk enrollment – your account admin asks Perk to enroll your company's entire card program at once. If your company has already set this up, you do not need to do anything yourself. Check with your account admin first.
  • Self-enrollment – you link your own card directly in the Perk app. This article walks you through self-enrollment.

Before you start

To self-enroll a third-party card, you need a corporate or business card. You can't add personal cards; your card must be part of a business card program. Check with your account admin for eligibility.

Note: You can't self-enroll an American Express card. American Express cards can only be added by Perk on your account or card admin's request.

Have your card details on hand, and make sure you can verify the card with your card issuer when prompted.

Add your own card in Perk

To add your third-party card:

  1. Go to Cards (or Cards > My cards, if you're a card admin).
  2. Select Add a card.
  3. Enter your card number and other card details.
  4. Verify your card through your card issuer's 3D Secure (3DS) check.
  5. Wait for Perk to link your card. Transactions start flowing in as you use it.

If your virtual card has its own card number (PAN) that's different from your physical card, add it as a separate third-party card. If your virtual and physical cards share the same PAN, you only need to add the physical card once.

What happens after your card is linked

After your card is linked, Perk displays it in a new tab with the last four digits of the card number (e.g. *4516) if the card has been linked or the card type and its status such as "Third-party card (Pending)" while linking finishes.

Since these cards are issued by an external provider, limits and spend controls aren't available in Perk. To view or manage them, visit your card issuer's platform.

Some transactions appear in Perk as soon as you make a purchase (at authorization). Other transactions appear once they clear, which can take a little longer.

When you have already created an expense that matches the details of your card transaction and includes your card number, Perk automatically matches that expense with the transaction for you to review and submit. Account admins and card admins can also see your third-party card and its transactions in Perk, so they can match and review them alongside your other expenses.

What you can't do with a third-party card

Because Perk connects to your third-party card rather than issuing it, some card actions stay with your card issuer instead of Perk. Perk doesn't have spend controls or limits for third-party cards. You also can't freeze or activate the card, view its PIN, or report it lost or stolen from Perk. For all of these, go to your card issuer's platform instead.

Caution: Perk doesn't automatically attach receipts to third-party card transactions. You need to match expenses to transactions yourself.

Troubleshooting

If you run into an issue while adding a third-party card, try these steps:

  • If verification doesn't go through, double check your card details and try again, or confirm with your card issuer that the card supports 3D Secure (3DS).
  • If your card doesn't appear in Cards after you add it, wait a few minutes and refresh the page; linking can take a little time.
  • If your card still won't link, contact Perk support for help.
