Extend a business trip with personal nights

Extend stay lets a traveler add personal nights to a stay already booked for a business trip, so a work trip can extend into personal time with just a few clicks. To learn how personal travel is booked and paid for once the search starts, see Booking personal travel on Perk.

In short: an eligible trip on the itinerary shows an Extend stay banner. Selecting it opens a calendar to pick personal nights and add guests, then Perk starts a new personal hotel search near the same stay for just those nights

Note: Personal travel is in beta and available to select customers.

What Extend stay does

Extend stay adds personal nights before or after a stay already booked on a business trip. Extend stay doesn't change or rebook the existing business reservation. Instead, it starts a brand new personal hotel search in that same area — the traveler might end up booking the same stay, or somewhere else nearby — for just the personal nights picked. The traveler then books and pays that personal stay separately, as their own personal travel.

Where to find it

  1. Open the trip itinerary.
  2. Look at the footer of a hotel card for a purple banner with a sun icon and an Extend stay button.
  3. Select Extend stay to open the "Add personal nights to this stay" window.

Note: The banner only appears on a hotel that's part of a booked business trip and where the traveler is one of the travelers on the trip.

Add personal nights and guests

  1. Check the date range at the top of the window to confirm which stay is being extended.
  2. Use the night-strip calendar to pick personal nights. The strip shows each night as a cell: nights from the original business stay are labeled "BIZ", and the nights selected are labeled "YOU".
A traveler can pick nights before check-in or after checkout, but not both in the same request, and not nights that overlap the business stay. Nights are selectable up to about 2 weeks on either side of the business stay, and past nights aren't available.

  3. Check the running summary, which shows the total nights, the split between business and personal nights, and the full date range from check-in through the last personal night.
  4. In the "Bring guests on your personal stay" section, add anyone joining the personal nights. The traveler booking the extension is included automatically and can't be removed. Other guests can be added or removed freely — they don't need to have been on the original business trip.
  5. Select Search availability once at least one personal night is picked. This button stays inactive until then.

There's no separate cancel button. To back out without booking anything, close the window.

What happens after you search

Once Search availability is selected, Perk goes straight to hotel search results for a new personal booking.

  1. Perk starts a new hotel search in the same area as the original stay, covering only the personal nights picked.
  2. Results are sorted by distance from the original stay, for the guests added — the same hotel may appear, but so will others nearby.
  3. Pick a stay and room from the results.
  4. Check out as personal travel.

This search is separate from the business reservation. It's a new, independent booking, so the traveler isn't limited to the same hotel or room — they choose from whatever's available nearby.

Caution: If the search doesn't start, the traveler sees an error and stays on the itinerary page. Selecting Extend stay again tries again.

Things to know before you start

  • Extend stay is available once the business trip is booked, and only for hotels where the traveler is one of the travelers on the trip.
  • Personal nights can be added to one side of the business stay at a time, within about 2 weeks of it.
