Cost objects, custom fields, and groups

Cost objects

Cost objects are used to allocate and track costs coming through Perk. They can represent different parts of a business, such as departments, teams, projects, or cost centers, depending on how they're set up and what needs to be reported.

To learn more about cost objects, see Cost objects on Perk.

Cost centers are now cost objects

We’ve renamed cost centers to cost objects in Perk. While the name has changed, how they are used within travel bookings and travel analytics hasn’t changed. You still use them to categorize any trip expenses.

From February 1, 2026, we’ll also adjust the column name in your CSV and PDF downloads. If you use these files in an automated process, ensure your workflow is updated to reflect the change in column names.

Custom fields

Custom fields allow account admins to create personalized fields to collect all necessary information from travelers when they book trips. To learn more about custom fields, see Custom fields on Perk.

Note: Previously, you could use labels to tag trips and track trip costs on invoices. Custom fields have now replaced labels. Any archived or active labels you have in your account have been converted to custom fields. For more information, see Migrating labels to custom fields

There are two types of custom fields:

  • User profile fields: You can use custom fields in a user's profile to add additional information about the person, such as dietary preferences. For more information, see Set up user profile custom fields.
  • Travel, expense, and invoice fields: You can set up custom fields to collect additional information when booking a trip, submitting an expense, or processing an invoice for cost allocation. The information in this field can be used to track and classify costs or to trigger a specific approval flow. For more information, see Set up travel, expense, and invoice custom fields.

User groups

With user groups, you can add your company's organizational structure to Perk.

You can create teams, departments, locations, or any other groups and assign people to them. To learn more about user groups, see Set up your organization structure with user groups
