Managing missed flights and connections

Missed connections

If you miss a connecting flight due to a delay, generally the airline will rebook you on another flight or offer a refund. This depends on the type of ticket that you have:

  • Single ticket - both flights are on the same booking: The airline is responsible. They must rebook you free of charge, usually on the next available flight, and they may provide refreshments and accommodation during the delay.
  • Multiple tickets - the connection is booked separately: You won't be eligible for rebooking. You can book alternative transport on Perk and contact us to see if you are eligible for a refund for the missed flight.

Minimum connection time

Minimum connecting time is the time required to transfer a passenger and luggage between two flights at a specific airport. These are the guidelines Perk uses, but they might differ slightly for some airlines.

  • Domestic flights with domestic connections: 45 minutes or more.
  • Domestic flights with international connections: 60 minutes or more.
  • International flights with any connections: 90 minutes or more.

If the time you have to make your connecting flight is less than this, you should speak to the airline's staff at the gate or at the airline counter before your flight leaves. They may be able to change your connecting flight before you depart.

You should also speak to the airline staff immediately when you arrive at the connecting airport.

You can also contact Perk, and we can assist you in making alternative arrangements.

For information about cancelled and delayed flights, see Manage canceled flights and Manage delayed flights.

Missed flights

If you miss your flight due to reasons within your control, such as arriving late due to traffic, going to the wrong gate, or visa or customs issues, the ticket is generally forfeited. You won't be entitled to a refund or rebooking options.

You can book a new flight on Perk or contact us for assistance with finding alternative transport.

If you miss your flight due to exceptional circumstances, such as illness or the death of a close family member, contact us and we'll check the airline's policy to see if you can get a refund. You'll need to provide relevant documents to support the circumstances, and the airline will decide whether it's valid.

Using your return flight if you miss your first flight

Generally, if you miss your first flight on a single-ticket booking with both flights on the same reservation, you can't take the return flight.

In cases of cancellations, your return flight shouldn't be affected. You'll need to check this with the airline or contact Perk

If you're already at the airport, go to the airline counter and ask.

Changed connections due to a delay or cancellation

If your connecting flight is changed by the airline due to a delay or cancellation and your flights were booked on a single ticket, you should have the option to change the connecting flights or request a refund.

If you are not happy with the new connecting flight, don't accept it. Access your booking on the airline's website and check the available options. If you are already at the airport, talk to the airline staff and ask them to help.

If the airline notifies you before your first flight, you can contact Perk, and we'll check your options. This is entirely dependent on the airline's schedule change policies.

Changes to arrival airports

If the pilot is forced to divert the plane to another airport due to weather or an airport closure, the airline operating the flight is responsible for getting you to your original destination.

They must provide and cover the cost of ground transportation, such as a bus, taxi, or train, from the diverted airport to your original destination airport or another location.

As soon as you land, contact the airline staff to confirm the ground transportation arrangements. If you need any assistance making alternative transport arrangements, contact Perk
