Ask your connected AI assistant a first question about your Perk travel and spend data to confirm the connection works. Use this article to pick a simple starter prompt for your role and to learn how to reword a question if it doesn't work the first time.
Anyone with access to Perk can ask questions. You only see the data your Perk role and account setup allow.
Before you start, make sure you've connected your assistant to Perk. For the steps, see Connect your AI assistant to Perk.
Confirm it works with a starter prompt
Ask a simple question first to check that your assistant can read your Perk data. Pick the starter prompt that matches your role and type it into your assistant:
- Travelers: "Show me all my upcoming trips."
- Admins and finance: "What are our top cost categories this quarter?"
- Approvers: "Approve all my team's outstanding in-policy trips."
If your assistant returns real data from Perk, the connection is working and you're ready to ask more.
Ask Perk to take action
Once your first question works, try a write action. Perk MCP can act on your Perk data as well as read it, so you can ask your assistant to do these things too:
- Book travel: "Find me the cheapest in-policy flight to Madrid next Tuesday and book it." Your assistant hands you a checkout link to finish in the Perk web app.
- Book a rental car: "Book me a compact rental car at Chicago O'Hare for my trip next week."
- Approve a trip: "Approve Sarah's Barcelona trip — it's in policy."
- Check visa and entry requirements: "Do I need a visa to travel from the UK to India next month?"
- Get a booking confirmation PDF: "I need proof of my flight for a visa application — can you email me the PDF?"
- Create an expense: "Create a £42 meal expense from this receipt and submit it to my manager."
- Approve expenses: "Approve all expenses under £100 from my team this week."
- Match a receipt: "Here's my receipt from the Marriott last night." No follow-up needed — the match happens automatically.
- Get team insights: "Which of my direct reports has the highest travel spend right now?"
- Create an event: "Set up a Perk Event for our Q4 leadership offsite."
Note: You only see and do what your Perk role and account setup allow — an approver can approve, but only for what they're already permitted to approve in Perk.
Reword a question if it doesn't work
Natural language works with Perk MCP, so you don't need exact phrasing. Ask in your own words, the way you'd ask a colleague.
If something doesn't work the first time, try one of these:
- Ask your assistant what it can do with Perk, then pick from what it suggests.
- Reword the question and ask again.
- Add a filter, such as a date range, status, or destination, to make it more specific.
Tip: If you're not sure what to ask, try "What can you do with Perk?" Your assistant will describe the kinds of questions it can answer with your data.
